Andrew started his career
as a civil engineer designing ports, harbours and river defences.
In 1980 he changed to structural engineering and joined Hurst Peirce
+ Malcolm in 1986 as an Associate becoming a Partner in 1988. He
became Senior Partner in 2002.
He has a wide range of
experience of most building types be they new construction or refurbishment.
In particular he is interested in the refurbishment of old and historic
buildings where he likes to enhance the practice's reputation of
understanding the original construction so that the alterations
are complementary.
He has also undertaken
a large number of structural appraisals of buildings of all ages
giving considerable insight into the performance of the different
types of construction.
Andrew also provides
advice on civil engineering matters and in particular flood assessments.
He has acted as an expert
witness on a wide variety of legal and insurance cases where a structure
has been involved.
He has been accredited
by the Conservation Accreditation Register for Engineers (CARE)
as a conservation engineer.
